The Mayor, Judge, Chief of Police, Hospital Director, and a vast array of public servants on the take fear jail time as news reaches their small ‘Podunk’ that a Government Inspector is in the area and taken on a disguise in order to discover how badly corruption has spread through the countryside. They learn that there is a newcomer in the hotel and swiftly take action to shower him with bribes, gifts and romance in order to buy a positive report. But could a case of mistaken identity sabotage their efforts? This madcap satirical adaptation of Gogol’s classic exposes the corruption in a provincial town with biting hilarity.
