This year’s Salish Sea Summer Gathering, hosted by Tsleil-Waututh Nation (TWN), is one part of the Salish Sea Sacred Trust Initiative’s campaign against the Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion. The event will bring three thousand people, activists, artists and entertainers together at Whey-ah-Wichen (Cates Park) on August 10, 2014 (12 PM – 8 PM) to join together in the fight against Kinder Morgan.

The Salish Sea Sacred Trust Initiative is mandated to halt the Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion that would see a dramatic and unsustainable increase in tanker traffic in the Salish Sea (the ocean body that lies between the south-western tip of BC and the north-western tip of Washington State). The festival will occur directly across the Burrard Inlet from the Kinder Morgan terminal, the only place that tar sands oil is exported via tanker from Canada.

The Gathering will bring people together across cultures to participate in canoe paddles, a salmon BBQ and all-ages programming, as well as hear from indigenous and environmental activist speakers and great musical entertainment from multiple Juno-award winning artists such as Chilliwack, Holly McNarland and Vince Vaccaro.

B.C. residents are being encouraged to show their support for the Tsleil-Waututh Nation and their leadership in opposition to the Kinder Morgan pipeline by purchasing a ticket in advance of the event or becoming a Friend of the Sacred Trust.
