Mission Statement

Vancouver Tap Dance Society strives to be a leader in the promotion and preservation of tap dance and is dedicated to developing an awareness of this art form. The Society’s mandate includes the Tap Academy, Vancouver International Tap Festival, TapCo, a youth performance ensemble and an Outreach Program that provides classes to hundreds of children each year.

A Passion for Tap Dance

VTDS was co founded by Lana Caputi and Sas Selfjord in 1995. The art of TAP is shared globally and its relevance and vibrancy in any community is a direct result of all tap dancers sharing in their knowledge and artistry and working together. Reaching out to the community and evolving as a hub for dancers is an artistic and operational challenge. The Vancouver Tap Dance Society is committed to “spearheading” projects to promote tap dance to the public, delivering comprehensive training opportiunities from the novice to the professional dancers and providing a professional level of arts administration and infrastructure that will support all VTDS activities and programs.

Hallmarks of VTDS include our professional faculty, a commitment to preserving the legacy of the tap masters, high profile performance opportunities and a culture of respect and passion for tap dance.
