Made in BC: Home Grown Design
To May 27th, 2012
North Vancouver Museum
Presentation House Arts Centre, 209 West 4th Street
Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, noon to 5 pm
Design is about function and communication, creativity and innovation. The history of BC’s design reflects the diverse cultures, needs and spirits of the province’s places and people. From snowboards to apple boxes to Newt Suits, this exhibit contains works that are both well known and obscure; some are award winning designs while others are vernacular-folk design. Included are objects created by aboriginal people, early immigrants and more recent newcomers, and both academically schooled and self-taught designers are represented. The exhibit contains a video presentation showcasing examples of BC design from 1858 through 2008. The video component is also available online at www.northvanmuseum.ca.
