This talk by David Cook will be an account of the Australian Star Mountains Expedition (1965) which completed 85 days of exploration and first crossing of the Star Mountains of Papua New Guinea, the last major unexplored area of Papua New Guinea. The Star Mountains are a bleak and perpetually mist and cloud covered range, reaching to an elevation of 3900 m and sitting on a limestone plateau. Cliffs surrounding the plateau, 1200 m high, had thwarted previous entry into the area.
