Raising our Voices to End Poverty on the North Shore – Mt. Seymour United Church
Mount Seymour United Church has brought together North Shore community choirs Burstin’ with Broadway, The North Shore Chorus, Julie Blue’s Singspiration Choir, the downtown east side’s Gathering Place Choir directed by Earle Peach, and the church’s 2 choirs together for a fundraising evening aimed at raising awareness about the issue of homelessness and poverty in North Vancouver. All profit will be donated to the North Shore Lookout Emergency Aid Society.
Join us for this amazing concert with The North Shore Chorus, Burstin’ with Broadway, Singspiration, the Gathering Place Choir and Mount Seymour United’s 2 choirs as we raise our voices to raise money for the Lookout Emergency Aid Society.
“The Lookout’s North Shore Shelter provided 15,359 bed nights last year, or one thousand and one fewer bed nights than the downtown eastside shelter” – says the Dundarave Festival of Lights’ website.
There is a homelessness and poverty problem on the North Shore. Many people believe that homelessness only occurs on the downtown east side, but poverty rears its head in many ways. There are a great deal of seniors and also younger people who simply cannot get through the month with their limited income and high property taxes, rent and other medical expenses, so they turn to the food bank to get them through the month.
This concert is being organized by Dominique Hogan, Music Director at Mt Seymour United Church’s and Founder/Artistic Director of Burstin’ with Broadway, with the help of Layton Peck and the Dugout Drop In Centre.
“There is nothing more powerful than a huge group of voices singing together, I am looking forward to hearing these diverse choirs, which show us the diversity of our community through music. I am really inspired at how quickly each choir jumped in to participate in this event.” says Dominique Hogan.
