The Dundarave Show and Ride for Cystic Fibrosis is a charitable Good Works event by members of the Canadian West Region of the the Porsche Club of America with support from local and corporate sponsors. Held annually, on Father’s Day – the event raises money for medical research to help find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis, a deadly genetic disease affecting mainly children and young adults across Canada.
The inaugural Dundarave Porsche Show and Ride was held on June 18, 2006 – Father’s Day – in Dundarave Village in West Vancouver. Since then the event has always been run on Father’s Day. Dundarave Village comprises the 2400 block on Marine Drive in West Vancouver. Anchored at the North-West corner by IGA MartketPlace, it is a one block shopping district and a popular destination for West Vancouverites to shop or socialize in one of the small eateries or coffee shops, such as Starbucks and Delany’s Coffee House, the Red Lion pub, and restaurants such as the Beach House. It also has a sandy, family oriented beach with a children’s playground, adjacent to the Dundarave pier and start to the Dundarave to Ambleside Sea walk.
While the initial 2006 event attracted around 60 Porsches of various model years, the participation rate by Porsche owners has gradually increased to around 100 plus as the event continues to prove its popularity both with the PCA-CWR membership and members of public who turned out in large numbers, especially when the weather was cooperating! The middle of June can be a fickle time for the weather gods, but to date we have never been rained-out. There were a number of time that it threatened to, but other than a brief shower or two, we have been extremely fortunate in that department. In terms of funds raised for CF, all participant registration fees are collected as a direct donation to Cystic Fibrosis Canada. To date, this event has now raised nearly $90,000 for Cystic Fibrosis, and this includes an additional contribution by the CWR to CF including funds raised during their annual Canada West Weekend in Whistler.
The Dundarave Porsche Show and Ride continues to benefit from various forms of support from the local community, including Dundarave businesses such as the Libations Liquor Store, The Bake House, and Delany’s Coffee House who provided free coffee for event registrants. And we remain grateful for the continued support of BA Blacktop to implement the approved traffic plan, by providing the flag-people and materials such as pylons to close off the curb lanes on the 2400 block of Marine Drive. Finally, we received important financial support as well as participation through a display of new or exotic Porsches from the Porsche Centre Vancouverr.
