Biggest Cash Prize in Western Canada
With over $50,000 in cash and prizes the Labour Day Chinook Classic out of Mosquito Creek Marina in North Vancouver is the hottest catch and release fishing derby on the West Coast. Grand Prize of $25,000 for the largest chinook, second prize $10,000, and third prize $3,000 this derby encourages the serious fisher, the weekender fisher, and anyone who just wants to have fun on the water while supporting a great charity. The Labour Day Chinook Classic is a not-for-profit event created to aid the Pacific Salmon Foundation in their efforts to spearhead salmon conservation.
This year marks the third annual Labour Day Chinook Classic which has the largest cash prizes in Western Canada totaling $38,000 along with additional prizes/raffles of over $25,000 including a fishing trip to Haida Gwaii from The West Coast Fishing Club a value of $10,000, a hot tub from Coast Spas, and a guided fishing trip to Pitt River from Pacific Angler. Entry fee is $1,600 for a group of four and participants enjoy a pre-event breakfast and wrap-up dinner celebration where the winner is announced.
Throughout the day, the anglers will be greeted by the Splash Team who will be cruising the waters handing out refreshments and cheering on each group. Fishing starts at 7:00am and goes until 4:00pm when the boats return and the winner is announced at the evening festivities. The sunset party, hosted on the ferry “Celebration on Water” docked at Mosquito Creek Marina, includes great music, a silent auction and 50/50 draw, burlesque entertainment, and much more. Guests who wish to join in the evening events can do so by purchasing a $30.00 dinner ticket.
The Labour Day Chinook Classic Catch and Release Fishing Derby was founded by several local establishments who wanted to create an exciting event which also gave back to the community. It’s through their efforts that the derby was launched and the Pacific Salmon Foundation and Capilano Little One’s School became the benefactors.
