Robert Davidson: Progression of Form Exhibition Opening Party

Event Details

Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art

Come and celebrate a fun filled evening with Robert Davidson and friends of the Smith Foundation. The night’s festivities will include an opening reception and an artist panel discussion.

The Artist Panel Discussion will run from 6:00pm-7:00pm. Panelists include:

·  Robert Davidson, exhibiting artist;

·  Peter McNair, curator and scholar;

·  Ian M. Thom, O.C., Senior Curator, Vancouver Art Gallery.

Although Davidson’s vision is deeply rooted in tradition, he strives to push boundaries of representation and art-making to what he considers a universal artistic experience. Many of his works lean close to abstraction while showing deep respect for traditional Haida artistic expression and it is in this balanced intersection that we see the significance of the progression of form.

Visitors will be given an appreciation of the work in the space as well as of Davidson’s traditional carvings, jewellery making, totems and significant contribution to Haida song, dance and ceremony all integral to his artistic and life journey.
