Renowned Vancouver furniture designer opens his exhibition, ‘Serious Fun with Judson Beaumont’ at the Gordon Smith Gallery on January 13th, 6-9pm. The Process Space at the Gallery will be animated by the intricately flamboyant, seemingly impossible-to-build, and seriously playful sculptural furniture from famed Vancouver furniture designer Judson Beaumont.
Beaumont will be inviting viewers into a unique artistic practice where ‘any design is possible’; preparatory drawings and sculptural moquettes follow his process from plans to completed objects. As he has said: “My rule is: if you can draw and design it, you can build it. I love it when someone tells me, ‘You cannot build that’ or ‘No one would want that’. These words only encourage me more.”
It’s a perfect match for a gallery dedicated to engaging young people and their families, from a designer whose furniture has changed the lives of many young people.
