CONCERTS in the SQUARE

Event Details

Shipbuilders' Square at the Shipyards

The City of North Vancouver has launched its new free summer outdoor entertainment program €œConcerts in the Square€, now in its 4th week, has been a resounding success. This innovative concert series offers free concerts hosted on select Saturdays throughout the summer featuring established recording artists and cultural performances, plus original fine art presented by local artists and artisans. The next Concert in the Square is happening this Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Shipbuilders€™ Square at the Shipyards in North Vancouver.

The August 20th edition boasts an exciting line-up of high-energy pop and cultural performers including Dirty Radio, Locarno, Blackberry Wood, Jennifer Hershman, Nat Jay, with E3 Elite Entertainment’s Bhangra & Bollywood Dancers plus the Korean Traditional Arts Society. Gates open at noon; cultural entertainers perform early afternoon; live bands start at 3 pm with headline performances at 7 pm.

North Vancouver’€™s own Dirty Radio has seen their latest single €œMy Heart€ receive extensive national airplay. Locarno’s sound is part Mexican with strong doses of Cuban folk, pop and funk. Blackberry Wood is a combination of alt-country, gypsy circus music with exotic world beats and punk-fashioned flavours. Singer songwriter Jennifer Hershman will showcase her unique folk friendly sounds with a three-piece band while local songstress, Nat Jay, presents a full set of songs that have an ageless quality – both magnetic and elusive. E3 Elite Entertainment’s Bhangra & Bollywood Dancers will enthrall the crowd with their cultural moves and exhilarating rhythms. The Korean Traditional Arts Society is renowned for their colourful costumes and artistic dance presentation which offer a taste of traditional Korean traditional dance and drums.

A prominent on-site attraction, Art on the Pier, provides a showcasing platform for some of the best local artists in the region who will be painting live on site, plus artisans, vendors, and exhibitors located along the waterfront walkway offering art, jewellery and crafts. Art on the Pier also features special attractions such as a graffiti arts display, henna tattoos, tarot card readers and food.

The unique venue is the popular Shipbuilders€™ Square located in the newly refurbished Shipyards waterfront area at the foot of Lonsdale, just east of the Quay.

Performers and artists interested in participating are invited to contact Concerts in the Square producer, John Donnelly & Associates.
