“For me Brazilian music is the perfect mix of melody and rhythm. It just bubbles rhythmically. If I had to pick just one music style to play it would be Brazilian.” ~Herbie Mann (American Jazz flautist)

Following the excitement of the World Cup and with the Rio Olympics looming, Brazilian fever is spreading around the world like wildfire. This musically rich, complex and fascinating country has provided the world with some of the most influential music of all time. So much more than just the cocktail-sipping tropical image of bossa nova, and the hip shaking samba dancers of Carnival, the music that began to emerge in the 1960s in Brazil pushed boundaries with its modern and revolutionary edge and infused new life into the world of jazz. Capilano’s own “A” Band and NiteCap will take you on a journey through this vast, sensual and exciting musicscape. The evening will feature some of the best Brazilian jazz of the last decades from luminaries such as João Gilberto, Antônio Carlos Jobim, Baden Powell, Jorge Ben and Caetano Veloso and more.
