Atrium Gallery Artist Talk with Larissa Blokhuis at the North Vancouver City Hall

This installation was inspired by sea creatures that live beyond the reach of the sun’s rays. The translucent quality of these animals, combined with their strange evolutionary path, has created a dream-like effect that Larissa replicates in her pieces.

Larissa was born in the mid 80s on the edge of the prairies in Canada. At age fourteen, she took the first glassblowing course available to people under the age of 18. In 2008 she completed her BFA in glass at the Alberta College of Art and Design. In 2009, Larissa moved to the coast to take a job as a glassblower on Granville Island.

Larissa is interested in a diverse range of topics, including nature, politics, psychology, and history. She loves to travel and take photographs. New experiences and sights feed her creativity.
