Back by be-bopular demand, The Chip Butcher Quartet pokes “A-sharp, minor” stick at the caged bear of jazz conformity.
Butcher, considered a heavyweight in the trumpeting of the “north by north-west coast” jazz sound, is pleased to present the vocal landscapes of saloon crooner Coleman Holeman.
And, with the introduction of the quartet’s seldom-seen accompanist, Meinhard Grinke, on keyboards, we finally catch a rare glimpse of Butcher’s legendary and impressive pianist.
Together, the quartet’s music and lyrics, entirely improvised, blend to create a new jazz standard.
