It has been such an honour to serve on CNV Council for the past 8 years. I hope to continue with the positive work we have done in creating affordable housing options, leading on climate action, supporting a diverse economy for small businesses to thrive, providing active and sustainable ways for people to move around and creating vibrant public spaces.
Born and raised in North Vancouver, I began my career on the North Shore as a hair stylist, then on to teaching at Carson Graham High School. I left that job in 1998 to pursue my master’s degree in education. My love of education led me to open Holly’s Salon and School on central Lonsdale, a successful, high-end salon and training facility that I operated for 20 years. During that time, I was pleased to receive the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award in the Best Employer; and Business Person of the Year categories
and have twice been a finalist in Vancouver’s YWCA Women of Distinction awards. I was also honoured to be voted one of Canada’s most inspirational women by Chatelaine Magazine.
My husband and I have three sons, and they all live in North Vancouver with their families.
From 2008 to 2011, I served on the North Vancouver School Board in the elected position of Trustee.
In 2014, I was elected to my first term as Councillor with the City of North Vancouver. It is an honour to serve my community and I welcome the opportunity to continue putting my years of business and community minded experience to work for you.
No matter how positive, change can present some challenges. We need strong Council leadership to guide us through this time of renewal and to ensure that we effectively manage challenges that arise along the way. Working to ensure that our community is welcoming and inclusive for everyone, providing affordable housing options, leading on climate action, supporting a diverse economy for businesses to grow and prosper, providing active and sustainable ways for people to move around the North Shore, and building a vibrant city where people can gather and connect. The role of Councillor is to represent the diversity of our community, to be the liaison with our citizens, community groups, and other levels of government.
During my previous two terms on Council, we made some important decisions that will carry us through for generations. But our work is not done. With your support, I will build on that momentum, incorporate your thoughts and ideas, and bring my business-minded and common-sense approach to work for our residents.
During my last term, our community worked together to accomplish the following:
Completion of Green Necklace, Spirit Trail
Affordable rental units
Polygon Gallery
The Shipyards, skating plaza, splash park
Brewery District
More bike lanes, walkways, bike share
Improved public transit
Construction begins – Community Recreation Centre
Construction also begins – Silver Harbour Seniors Centre
North Shore Neighbourhood House redevelopment
Our community is made stronger when we all give back. I’m proud that my charitable work over the years has benefited many local charities, including Community Cares, North Shore Neighbourhood House, ALS Foundation, Abreast in a Boat Dragon Boat Team for breast cancer, Cops for Cancer, Jewels for a Cause (Cancer), Women of Downtown East Side, and many more.
The City of North Vancouver is a vibrant and thriving city and I feel so lucky to be part of this amazing community. Together, we are pulling out of the pandemic and creating a new normal and that means change. I am running for re-election to push for change and I am here to work even harder for you over the next four years.
