Indian Summer Festival of Arts and Ideas

Event Details

Woodward’s Complex

Dear Indian Summer friends, we’re back! The festival returns to Vancouver, July 5 to 15, 2012, and we warmly welcome you to join us.

Last summer, we had your incredible support and wonderful company in making the inaugural festival a big success. We present you once more with a lineup of critically acclaimed performers, internationally renowned thinkers, and mind-expanding experiences. ISF2012 highlights include Vancouver’s own celebrity chef Vikram Vij; Bollywood’s iconic leading ladySharmila Tagore; Af-Pak expert MJ Akbar; renowned feminist Urvashi Butalia; and award-winning world music group Mrigya, among many others.

Meanwhile, join us for a cocktail reception on June 1st at 6pm at the Audain Gallery for the unveiling of Delhi-based Raqs Media Collective’s window installation on Hastings Street.

This year we have an even broader array of free public programming and ticketed events spanning music, dance, literature, film, yoga, cuisine, and the visual arts. In short, a festival as diverse as Vancouver.

Today we’re pleased to announce the launch of our brand new website and the opening of our box office. Check out what’s in store for you on IndianSummerFestival.ca and get your tickets now. We sold out early last year, so don’t leave it until late!

Indian Summer Kids Arts Camp

A great chance for kids 8-13 to join the festival for a whole week of activities: yoga, dance, music, language, games, crafts & storytelling with expert instructors plus guest workshops by community leaders and international performers.

VIP Passes & Programs

For an exclusive Indian Summer experience, we invite you to become part of our circle of Festival Friends and Patrons. We have several tiers of membership that offer special privileges & perks, including preferred seating and concierge ticketing service.

Raqs On Hastings

The Primary Education of the Autodidact by Raqs Media Collective explores knowledge, power, utterance, and silence. The Audain Gallery will be inaugurating their work with an opening reception on June 1st and the window installation will be viewable throughout the summer!

Indian Summer is a meteorological phenomenon referring to an unexpectedly sunny period, and consistently above normal temperatures. The term can also be used metaphorically to mean a renaissance, or revival.

ISF2012 line-up has now been announced and box office is OPEN!
