The Cap Jazz Series is proud to present the Kenny Werner Trio at the BlueShore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts on Thursday, February 20th @ 8 PM. For the first time since the band’s inception 14 years ago, the jazz trio, that features Kenny Werner on piano, Ari Hoenig on drums and Johannes Weidenmueller on bass, will perform together in Vancouver in an evening that is sure to be both musically and spiritually rich and rewarding.

Kenny Werner’s influence as a musician and educator has spread far and wide. His 1996 book, Effortless Mastery- Liberating the Master Musician Within, has become one of the most widely used guides for musicians, a required text in many university classrooms and an introduction to a new and unique view on musicianship that has been inspirational to thousands.

In his extensive career Werner has been involved in over 30 albums as a musician, leader, sideman, composer, producer and arranger. In 2010 he was awarded the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship Award for the creativity of his most recent work, No Beginning No End. The album featured over 70 musicians and took a musical journey through the concepts of tragedy and loss, death and transition, and the path from one lifetime to the next.

He is currently Artist-in-Residence at New York University and continues to tour widely.

His thoughts on the purpose of music are deeply personal and yet also universal. “I am still more and more aware of the true purpose of the music and the people who play it: to heal and unite the planet.”
