The Louis Hayes’ Cannonball Adderley Legacy Band pays tribute to the music of the great Cannonball Adderley Quintet, one of the most popular jazz groups of the ’60s and early ’70s. A former member of the original Quintet, Hayes’ muscular style of hard bop drumming has provided the rhythmic drive for a long line of jazz royalty that includes Horace Silver, John Coltrane, and Oscar Peterson. Cannonball’s quintet was that rare jazz ensemble to cross over into pop music territory with a hit single, “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy.” Expect the unexpected from this hard boppin’ band.
