After five seasons as a national ratings hit on CBC Radio, The Irrelevant Show has begun venturing out of frosty Alberta. They are thrilled to be coming to the Centennial Theatre to record an evening of all-new sketches and songs for national broadcast. From everyday observational humour, to superheroes and science fiction, from pop culture parodies to surreal flights of imagination, The Irrelevant Show offers a sketch buffet with something for every comedy taste. The Irrelevant Show has won two Canadian Comedy awards and a medal at the prestigious New York festivals.
The radio show has been a popular success and won several awards, but the live recording is an event unto itself. “Most of the sound effects are live, as is a lot of the music. And what happens between sketches is really a second show: the theatre audience sees all the mistakes, all the banter, and all the vicious infighting that the radio listeners miss”, says show producer Peter Brown, “plus their reactions decide which sketches, and which jokes, actually make it into the radio show”.
The Irrelevant Show is taping two all-new episodes to be broadcast nationally on CBC Radio One.
