Event Details

Cates Park

The 5th annual Tsleil Waututh Festival celebrates the 30 year legacy of Chief Dan George. Performances relating to his life and interests will take place on the The Chief Dan George Main Stage. Other festival favorites include the traditional artisan’s village, kid’s art activities, art vendors and food vendors including a salmon barbeque.

Lei’s Hawaiian Dancers will open the event, sharing the culture Chief Dan was so fond of in his vacation travels to the islands. The band Alexson will perform some contemporary classics reminiscent of the old time blues, country and rock and roll that the family band Chief Dan was part of once played. Traditional dance groups from various regions in BC showcase the diversity of First Nation songs, dances and regalia. The Children of Takaya is the dance group of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation, created in the 1950’s by Chief Dan George himself. The stage will be hosted by one of the grandsons of Chief Dan George, Gabriel George, who will share some of his family stories and personal experiences.
