ABOUT US

‘A Place for Everyone’

The John Braithwaite Community Centre (JBCC) opened its doors to the community in August of 2004. With four floors and 35,000 square feet, it is often said by people who come, ‘this is a place for everyone.’ The Centre offers programs, events, and services for the diverse Lower Lonsdale community. It strives to be accessible to all, regardless of ability, social and cultural background or economic status. From individuals to families, youth to seniors, folks who are able bodied to those with disabilities, long-time North Vancouver residents to new Canadians, fitness beginners to experts, JBCC is truly a place ‘where neighbours meet’.

What We Offer

JBCC includes a busy senior’s centre, a vibrant youth centre, a welcoming family centre, a modern art studio, a well-equipped fitness centre, a gymnasium, a multi-purpose dance and fitness studio, community meeting rooms and offices, a kitchen, and a public-use computer area with ten work stations.

Our Partners

JBCC works closely within a unique partnership involving the City of North Vancouver, the North Vancouver Recreation Commission, and the North Shore Neighbourhood House. These partners are the foundation of our success in offering first rate programs and services. As part of the Centre’s StrategicPlan, JBCC has also developed continuing relationships with many community partners, including collaboration in the Lower Lonsdale Network.

Donations Accepted

We appreciate community support through fundraising activities and donations which help keep our programs, activities and services strong and affordable. Donations are accepted through the North Shore Neighbourhood  (NSNH), which is a registered charity. A Joint Resource Development Committee, supports and monitors these efforts.

Donations can be made either generally or directed to a specific purpose. Funds raised have helped support many programs including:

  • $1 Sunday Family Drop-In. A low-cost activity giving families access to the gym, the family centre and the art studio.
  • LoLo Drop-In. A FREE program for parents and young children on Monday and Wednesday mornings.
  • Youth Centre. A drop-in centre offering a safe, supportive environment for teens, including food and a variety of positive activities.
  • Golden Circle. A special wellness and socialization program for frail North Shore seniors.
  • Public art projects. Projects and installations in and around the Community Centre.
